KFSSG roles and responsibilities
Written by Administrator
The steering group will provide effective guidelines on methods and approaches for the coordination of both information and appropriate response measures.
Furthermore, the KFSSG will promote, strengthen and support the multi-agency approach to drought management and food security which has evolved in Kenya. Specifically the Terms of Reference for the KFSSG are as follows:
- Develop and implement mechanisms to coordinate the flow of drought management and food security information in the country, and develop procedures to ensure appropriate dissemination and access to the information.
- Coordinate the effective management of information and reporting for the KFSM and the Inter Ministerial Committee on Drought and Food Security (the latter to be the responsibility of an appointed GoK officer), such that when necessary the focus of such meetings can shift from information sharing to action planning and response coordination.
- Develop coordinated response mechanisms to be adopted by all relevant stakeholders. Such guidelines should promote mitigation and early response activities.
- Develop and manage a geographical targeting and distribution system for food and non-food responses to food insecurity and drought stress conditions that can be utilized by all stakeholders. A primary objective will be that of avoiding parallel structures and improving efficiency and impact.
- Provide technical advice and guidance to all relevant bodies on matters of food security and drought management as appropriate.
A descision will have to be taken as to how activities are divided between the technical Sub-Unit and the advisory, ‘think tank’ arm of the KFSSG
