The seven assessment districts situated around the shores of Lake Victoria account for a total population of about 3.1 million persons or 10 percent of the country’s population.

There are four main livelihood zones in the Lake region, namely the marginal agricultural – mixed farming, the highland mixed farming zone, the fishing and formal/informal trade centers.

Less than 20 percent of the population resides in the highlands, the vast majority are situated in the lowland areas that are prone to both drought and floods. Full report
